April 2025 in The Walled Garden
April 2025 in The Walled Garden
Building on our run of masterclasses in March, April was our busiest month of the year so far, with workshops in gardening, yoga, Indian head massage, screen printing and floristry taking place across a number of our beautiful venues: The Conservatory, The Greenhouse, the sauna, Hawarden Old Castle and within The Walled Garden itself.
Here’s a rundown of the exceptional workshops we hosted on Hawarden Estate in April 2025…
4th April - Menopause, Mindfulness & Movement with Emma Garland
Together, we took time to pause and reconnect during this calming, restorative session designed to empower guests through their menopause journey. During the day we were given: an introduction to menopause health and the six pillars of lifestyle medicine; gentle, guided mindfulness and meditation techniques; tools to ease stress, improve focus and enhance emotional balance; a gentle menopause movement session; a safe space to reflect, connect and reset.
Three words to sum up this magical day?
Pause. Breathe. Bloom.
Multiple Dates - Sauna Sessions in The Walled Garden
These simple, super popular sessions are available for communal bookings or private use. Whether you’re a seasoned sauna-user or keen to try it for the first time, The Walled Garden on Hawarden Estate is a beautiful place to unwind, relax and recharge.
12th April - Indian Head Massage with Stephanie Hughes
Indian Head Massage is an ancient therapy, and it is still common for daughters, mothers and grandmothers to sit and practice this ancient therapy in India today. And the great news is that it is relatively easy to learn the basics!
Due to our fast-paced lifestyles, many of us carry tension in our back, neck, shoulders and head. This can lead to: tension headaches, migraines, jaw clenching, back ache, eye strain, and even IBS type symptoms.
Throughout this workshop, Stephanie showed us some of the techniques she uses during Indian Head Massage to help improve: circulation, promote relaxation, lower blood pressure. What's more, she also touched upon self-massage and some acupressure points for our self-care toolboxes for when we’re feeling stressed in the future.
26th April - Screen Printing Masterclass with Gail Bryson
We don’t have favourite workshop hosts… but if we did Gail would be one of them!
During this workshop we designed and printed our own tea towels alongside expert designer and printer, Gail, as the sun shone on The Terrace. Gail took us through the steps of creating our design, talking through the printing process and finally helping us print our tea towels.
Together, we learned about stencilling, screen printing and how to translate our ideas into a design. We then choose our colours, and got to work screen printing the designs.
27th April - Garden to Vase Floristry Masterclass with Welshborn Flowers
Mark Mckee has become somewhat of a Walled Garden School Florist-in-Residence during early 2025, and in late April he returned to lead his most popular, and most in-depth masterclass yet.
During the first half of this workshop our expert horticulturist, Mark, provided us with a how-to guide to getting started with seed sowing and planning our beds for a cut flower garden. He guided us through different types of seeds and how to get the best results. We also covered what to do once our seeds germinate and how to care for our baby plants.
The second half of the workshop became a tutorial on how to create a stunning bouquet using untraditional methods; stepping away from traditional spiralling and stepping out of the box when it comes to a hand tied arrangement.
We left this masterclass with the bouquets we made and the skills to grow and pick flowers from our gardens and put them together confidently.
A spectacular way to round off another smash hit month!
